Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how GrandPeoples.com (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit our website or contact us. We collect as little personal information as possible: GrandPeoples.com does not currently offer user accounts, a newsletter, comments, or online purchases.

Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to information we process through GrandPeoples.com, including its guides and contact form (together, the “Site”). It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we link to or write about. Please also read our Terms of Service and Disclaimer.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

When you use our contact form or email us, you give us information such as your name, your email address, and the content of your message. Please do not send sensitive information, such as health or financial details or passwords, through the form or by email.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, the Site’s hosting servers automatically record technical information in standard server logs. This may include:

  • your IP address;
  • your browser type and version, device type, and operating system;
  • the referring URL and the pages you request;
  • the date and time of each request; and
  • error and diagnostic data.

If we enable cookies, analytics, or advertising, those technologies may also collect information about your device and how you use the Site, as described below.

Information from third parties

We do not buy personal information. We may receive limited, aggregated reports from analytics or affiliate partners (for example, the number of clicks on a link), which generally do not identify you.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • respond to your messages, questions, and feedback;
  • operate and secure the Site, including preventing spam, abuse, and technical problems;
  • understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve our guides and your experience;
  • display advertising and measure affiliate performance, if and when we use these features;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms; and
  • carry out any other purpose with your consent.

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR require us to have a legal basis for processing your personal data. We rely on:

  • Legitimate interests — to respond to inquiries, operate and secure the Site, and understand basic usage, where your rights do not override those interests.
  • Consent — for non-essential cookies, analytics, and advertising technologies where consent is required. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing.
  • Contract — where processing is necessary to take steps at your request, such as replying to a business or partnership inquiry.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Similar technologies include pixels, scripts, and local storage. We may use the following types:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the Site to function and stay secure. These do not require consent.
  • Preference — remember choices you make, such as your cookie consent settings.
  • Analytics — help us understand how visitors use the Site, if we enable analytics.
  • Advertising and affiliate — used by advertising or affiliate partners to deliver, measure, and attribute ads or referrals, if we enable these features.

Where the law requires it, including in the EEA and UK, we will ask for your consent before placing non-essential cookies, and you can change your choices at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Site work.

Analytics and Advertising

We may use analytics services (for example, Google Analytics or a privacy-focused alternative) to understand traffic and usage, and we may display advertising served by third-party ad networks. If we use these services, we will:

  • update this policy to describe them;
  • ask for your consent before loading non-essential cookies where the law requires it; and
  • configure them to limit data collection where practical, for example by shortening retention periods.

Advertising partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies at YourAdChoices in the United States and Your Online Choices in Europe.

Some of our guides may contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The merchant or affiliate network may use cookies on its own website to attribute the referral. That tracking is governed by the third party’s privacy policy, not ours, and we generally receive only aggregated reports. See our Disclaimer for more about affiliate relationships.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. If we later use analytics or advertising technologies that count as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under certain US state laws, we will honor the opt-out rights described below. We may share information with:

  • Service providers that help us run the Site, such as hosting, form processing, email, security, and (if enabled) analytics providers, who may use it only to provide services to us.
  • Legal and safety recipients when required by law or legal process, or when disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of GrandPeoples.com, our readers, or others.
  • Business transferees if GrandPeoples.com is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to the protections in this policy.
  • Others with your consent or at your direction.

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, unless the law requires a longer period. Contact messages are kept until your inquiry is resolved and for a reasonable period afterward in case of follow-up, then deleted. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or aggregated. If we use analytics, we will choose the shortest practical retention setting.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information, including HTTPS encryption for data in transit. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it.

International Data Transfers

We and our service providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States, whose data protection laws may differ. When personal data leaves the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland for a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

Your Privacy Rights

Your rights depend on where you live and may include the following.

EEA and UK residents

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • erase your data in certain circumstances;
  • restrict how we process your data;
  • data portability, meaning a copy of your data in a portable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests or used for direct marketing;
  • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent; and
  • lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

US state privacy rights

Residents of California and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws may have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA). Subject to certain exceptions, these may include the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, its sources and purposes, and the categories of third parties we share it with, and to access specific pieces of it;
  • delete personal information we have collected from you;
  • correct inaccurate personal information; and
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising.

The categories of personal information we may collect are identifiers (such as name, email address, and IP address), internet activity on the Site, and the content of messages you send us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Global Privacy Control

Where required by applicable law, we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal sent by your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser or device.

How to exercise your rights

To make a request, email hello@grandspeoples.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We may need to verify your identity before responding. Where permitted by law, you may use an authorized agent, and we may ask for proof of the agent’s authority. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (for example, one month under the GDPR or 45 days under the CCPA). If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is written for adults and business audiences. It is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under those ages. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting. Because there is no common industry standard for DNT signals, the Site does not currently respond to them. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as described above.

Our guides often link to third-party websites, tools, and services. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add analytics or advertising, or when the law changes. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above. If the changes are material, we will provide more prominent notice where appropriate.
